School's Early Intervention Team
The Early Intervention Team (E.I.T.) at Center School meets every
Wednesday afternoon to study students referred by their classroom
teachers. The E.I.T. provides an opportunity to proactively discuss
students who are experiencing difficulty in school. Issues discussed
include academic progress, behavior, peer relationships, and emotional
well-being.
When a student is referred to the Early Intervention Team,
parents are notified and a member of the E.I.T. is assigned as a case
partner to help the classroom teacher prepare preliminary forms that
outline a student’s strengths and weaknesses and identify regular
education interventions that are already in place. During our weekly
meeting, a student goal is established and team members brainstorm
suggested activities to foster this goal. The team sometimes requests a
screening by special education staff in order to gather additional
information about a student. A follow-up meeting is scheduled to monitor
the student’s progress.
Members of the Early Intervention Team this year include:
Preschool Teacher Nancy Pettitt, First Grade Teacher Jane DeMilia,
Second Grade Teacher Carol Stanizzi, Third Grade Teacher Linda Blinn,
Art Teacher Jane Rider, Special Education Teacher Debra Zielinski,
School Psychologist Alan Rose, Language Arts Coordinator Marcia Heneson,
and Principal Colin McNamara.
